Proposed data center threatens our air quality

 

This proposed project, called Site Layer 1, just 59 miles from Silver City and 30 from Lordsburg would produce 3 times as much air pollution as current local mining operations. 

 

Do we want this upwind of us: 

 

Could consume approximately 2.3 million cubic feet of natural gas every hour, enough gas to power 900 local homes for an entire year.

(Yes, that's every HOUR!)

 

1,292,118 tons per year CO2 - equivalent to 280,000 cars

 

1,529 tons per year other pollutants, including particulates, sulfur dioxide, volatile organic compounds, and ammonia.

 

They call this "clean burning" natural gas!?!

 

Once again, do we want to breathe this?

The engines (32) proposed for this project are Wartsila 34SG V20 engines, cylinders approximately 13 3/8" diameter. The engine/generator set appears to be approximately 43 feet long and weigh 136 tons.  These are locomotive-size engines!  32 of 'em blowing exhaust into our air 24/7!
